Safety

All pilots are responsible for the safety of themselves, their drone, and other airspace/ground users at all times! Should the need arise, pilots can take back manual control of their drone at any time using these methods while capturing Spexigons:

  • Pulling down on the left power stick

  • Switching the mode on the controller

  • Activating the RTH button on the controller

For more aircraft safety features, please consult your drone user manual and the Pilot Onboarding section below.

The Spexi network is designed to work within the current civilian aviation regulations and best practices that all airspace users must follow.

There are three main areas where Spexi has made deliberate design decisions to ensure safe operations include:

  1. Airspace: The Spexi airspace system has been designed to work within the widely available civilian aviation airspace charts and systems such as VTA's and VNC.

    Spexigons will not exist:

    • Near take-off and landing areas of airports/aerodromes

    • Over CYR airspaces such as prisons and military installations

  2. Regulations: Many countries worldwide have adopted drone regulations that drone pilots must follow to operate lawfully and safely. Some of the widely adopted guidelines that Spexi has included are:

    • Drones will never fly above 400ft AGL while capturing Spexigons. In fact, operations will be standardized at 80m (~260ft AGL) as this height produces the ideal image resolution.

    • The Spexi airspace system has been designed to be flown within Visual Line of Sight (VLOS) flight rules. Spexigons are a certain size to promote Visual flight.

  3. Training: The Spexi platform has high-quality online training resources for pilots of any experience level to gain a base level of knowledge and best practices.

Spexigons have been designed to be flown within Visual Line Of Sight (VLOS). At all times, pilots are meant to act as the primary Detect and Avoid (DAA) function. This ensures pilots can make an emergency descent or maneuver in the unlikely event a manned aircraft enters their vicinity.

If and when Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operating guidelines and regulations come into effect, the Spexi platform may adjust its operating parameters to allow for larger-scale data capture per operator.
